Chapter thirty nine - Dehiwala (part dos)

sunny 31 °C

We are unable to sleep past seven in the luxury, soundproof room and are out and away from Hikkaduwa early doors. Get on the bus, pleasantly surprised that this service apparently goes all the way to Colombo (according to the conductor) and is not in the slightest bit busy. Unfortunately, the route terminates some two hundred metres up the road and we have to get on a very crowded, warm and uncomfortable bus for the two and a half hours to Dehiwala. Oh, the joys of being stood up for this amount of time whilst constantly being jabbed in the ribs by the elbow of an elderly woman.

Eventually arrive, armed with the benefit of actually knowing where we are staying. Arrive at Hornbill (our accommodation for the first night in Sri Lanka remember) absolutely dripping with sweat. To say we stink is an understatement. Go up the road and grab a very quick, very cheap lunch. Mini pizza, rice and curry and two litres of coke costs less than two quid.

We take a shower (to the relief of the Sri Lankan public) and take a stroll to the shops, where Gemma tries on a dress whilst I chat to the owner who ships all his products in from Bangkok. Hmmm, our luggage may become slightly heavier in Thailand... There are a German couple and two Polish girls in the apartment tonight, and after giving them invaluable tourist information, we have another takeaway and our last Lion Lagers of the trip. I am terrified on Skype of telling mum about my new skin art. Gemma alleviates my worries by constantly singing 'you're gonna be in trouble' to me for the whole day.
