Chapter forty - Negombo

sunny 28 °C

Day 149: Negombo, Sri Lanka 26/02/2012

A very nice, long, refreshing sleep in the A/C room with a decent, proper, comfortable bed. Amazing how a small combination like this can result in a good rest. We get up and as I type some of this blog up for you, the valued reader, Gemma gets us an amazing fruit salad for breakfast. We leave the apartment around half twelve, have an easy ride to the main bus stand in Colombo, then catch the next bus onto Negombo, which is close to the airport for our flight tomorrow.

Arrive in Negombo, grab a tuk-tuk to a hotel in the book, which is not an option really, have a quick hunt around and manage to find a really cheap room, which is fine for our brief stay and tomorrow's ridiculously early morning. We head for a walk on the beach, which is nothing special, certainly not a patch on the fine beaches we have just left yet is lined with some very expensive looking hotels. Have a cup of tea and then go to order food at our place. The woman has already taken two orders so cannot possibly take any more orders. So we go next door and receive an average meal at an above average Sri Lankan price. Gemma opts for a mystery meat spag bol.

Quick internet session, pack then bed ready for our trip to Bangkok tomorrow! Exciting!

We are sad to be leaving Sri Lanka but after a quick discussion we condense what we really love about the country to the following list: the people, the wildlife, the beaches, the food, the fact you always get takeaway food in a recycled paper bag (usually some kid's homework sheet), the bus conductors, the iced buns, the bakery vans and pretty much everything else.

We also decide we must come back to Sri Lanka!
